What is the Overbet?
To make a bet that is larger than the size of the pot.
Typical bet sizes are usually between half the pot at the low end to the size of the pot at the high end, so seeing a player make an overbet (usually on the river) is not very common.
Since confusion can often to lead to bad player’s making mistakes, as they don’t know how to interpret it, you can see where the value of overbetting comes from.
This hand between Phil Ivey and Dario Sammartino played at the 2016 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge demonstrates the overbet.
